Early Years-Part 1 早期作品-1

I started drawing cartoons at very young age without instruction and formal training. I learned my technique and style of humor by reading comics drawn by local and foreign cartoonists. The best role model at the time was the cartoons drawn by a legendary cartoon master and writer, the great 牛哥 (Ox Brother).

These are Cow Brother 牛哥's main characters in his popular cartoons.

I also picked up inspiration from American cartoons such Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck, etc. I read Mad Magazines and Playboys, yes, I did read Playboys for the pictures and cartoons at very young age. (What centerfold? DUH). As a result, the cartoons that I drew in early days tend to imitate lifestyles and humor portrayed in American media. I did not really understand the culture differences and subtlety of the humor until I moved to the US in the 70's.

Drawings published when I was in High School.

Drawings published when I was in college.

These two are the only surving water colors which I did in the 70s. All my original works stated in Taiwan and eventually were lost after I moved to the US in the 70s. The influences from Mad Magazine and the English sucks are apparant in my early works.
